Hi there. My name is Ben but i usually float around forums under the name Drifter or Drifter One and I live in West Malling, Kent. I have always had an underlying interest in the paranormal since the days of Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World and several books bought by my parents as a child. One in particular always springs to mind as it details Harry Price's investigation into Borley Rectory. Was chilling yet fascinating at the same time. As an adult, I really became obsessed with Most Haunted right from the very first pilot show, and have watched every one since, and recently thought to myself that investigating this stuff would be something i would be absolutely fascinated by. I am a sceptic, as i always look for rational explanations, but i have a very open mind too. I guess I just want to convince myself one way or another about spirits. So, after sitting around pondering for a long time, I finally did some research and stumbled up places that do paranormal investigations which invite the public along (for a price!). Taking the opportunity, my wife and I both decided we would attend an event and ended up in Fort Amherst, Chatham on saturday just gone. Although overall it was dissappointing, there was also some fascinating phenomena and had a fantastic experience. However, I know have caught the bug as we both have already booked another event for 15th of May and we cannot wait! Your forum makes great reading and a fine way to pass the time

| Hi DrifterOne
Well first i would like to welcome you to G.P.S i hope that you enjoy it here with us .
I also had a fascination for Arthur C Clarkes world of mystery , that was one of the best programs at the time , may i ask you who you went to Amherst with ??.
So you have been watching Most Haunted since the first episode , thats alot of episodes !! i personaly am not a fan of that program , its nothing like real paranormal investigating and after working with Richard Felix i found out a few things about the program that were alarming.
They never seem to be able to present any hard evidence its always "did you hear that " and " what was that " then you have nostril shots and alot of screaming and that is a big negative , investigating is like fishing "you don't know how long you have to wait and you may not even catch anything", i think that programs like most haunted have given poeple a false impression of what ghost hunting really is , but thats just my opinion.
So once again welcome .

Hi Ian, Thanks for the welcome. I attended Fort Amherst with no PI group in particular, but was run by volunteers who work the Fort Amherst site. The medium, can't remember his name, was good, but only stayed with each group for a 1 half hour vigil (there where 4 grps of 10 - too many in my opinion). As I said, it was a great experience for a first timer, but I dont think I would attend a PI in that particular format again. My next investigation is organised by GhostwatchUK. With regard to Most Haunted, I actually posted a reply to a post about one of the Mediums leaving the show. I agree, MH is sketchy and not doing any good for the subject matter these days and have lost interest in the program a great deal. Series 1 and 2 where awesome, but after that it fell down a very long and slippery slope. Also, seeing other shows, mainly US programs, it seems it is all jazzed up for TV and makes it very unbelievable, which is why im taking the plunge and trying to find out for myself Oh and just to add - the most annoying thing of MH is when a crew member screams and says "Look at that!" and the camera operator holds focus on said person screaming. Surely the camera should be flipping around to where the sighting aledgedly was? Im not interested in someone filming someone else scream lol

Hi DrifterOne, G.P.S run paranormal events! Why don't you join me and Ian at the Kelvedon Nuclear Bunker in Essex on may 21st? We are also holding the first public investigation of Fort Horsted later this year, so that would be a great one. Thanks for joining the forum and if you do want to buy tickets to our next event just visit http://www.ghostfinder.co.uk/events.html _________________

Hi Barri, I would love to do Kelvedon Bunker with you guys, but as I am booked on an investigation on 15th of May, it would be stretching my budget a bit, but I hope to be doing some sort of event once a month for now. I usually work the last weekend of the month also, so this could be a stumbling block, but I certainly will be interested in future investigations. Who knows, I still may be able to get a ticket for Kelvedon.

I took a little mosey at your events page and noticed that you have requested Fort Amherst. I would like to visit this place again with an independent team (ie, yourselves) for several reasons. Mainly being that the staff that held the event last week contradicted each other, which I found frustrating. Secondly, its an awesome site - the Fort was apparently built over "Old Chatham" and moved to the site known as Chatham today. Also, there is an old church opposite the fort that has alledgedly been closed for a number of years which could be interesting. My final reason is that I live 30mins away so could drive home in the morning hehehehe!

Hello DrifterOne,
First of all a warm welcome from me too here in our forum. I really hope that you will enjoy your time here.
Talking about being obsessive... LOL just look at us... the GPS team is absolutely dedicated to the subject, sometimes really close to obsession... so join the club
It would be really cool if you could maybe write a brief report about the Ghostwatcher tour.
I certainly don't want to criticize any other team... each one of them has their very own style... but i am affraid, that there are a lot of fakers on the market, especially when it comes to so called public investigations... for me a very enoying fact, that was also one of the reasons, why we decided to do workshops ourselves... to give people the opportunity to join a REAL investigation team on a real investigation, be part of the team for one night, be able to use the equipment and get every question answered... and all this completely FAKEFREE, no fishing line, no hired "members of public" to freak out the other participants. We show people how it really is on an investigation.
It's a shame that you cannot make it to the Kelvedon Bunker, that's really a place worth investigating. But what about the Bodmin Jail? I know it is also in May, but that's on the last weekend.... combined with a weekend in Cornwall in the lovely area around bodmin... maybe your girlfriend wouldn't be AS reluctant to the idea then
But we are permanently working on new locations, also places that never had an event like that before. so watch this space

Hi Hella, I certainly will write up a report on the Ghostsearchuk event next week. It seems that they only tend to do investigations in pubs looking at their website, with the odd relic thrown in. As I mentioned before, the time I spent at Amherst was disappointing and im an open minded sceptic, so I won't take anything for face value. Unfortunately anything in May is out of the question for me now as my schedule is pretty full, but I agree, bodmin gaol would be ace. Maybe next time, eh? I maybe doing Kelvedon Hatch in July, so again, ill let you guys know how it went. Happy hunting!
